I'm a physio now...

Hello Reader,

I hope you are having a spectacular Friday.

1:1 Coaching spots close February 15th- only four spots left mes amis, MAKE HASTE

Count down to 2026-02-15T00:00:00.000Z

As stated previously, I have been rewatching Mad Men, and now I am sitting in the lounge of The Standard Hotel in London, and it's a 70’s dreamscape.

I love it. I'm having a great day.

Anyway, enough about me.

I used to have a really hard time explaining what it is that I do. And now I think I’ve gotten it down to an art. We hope. (Well, I hope)

I’m the physio of your body image and food.

I am not the trauma surgeon. We won't be unpacking how your mum or your high school bully made you feel, or the loss or the emotional abuse, or general Big Stuff. That’s ain't for me, dawg. And I'm not pretending to be able to help you with that. GO TO THERAPY YOU GUYS, IT'S 2026!!!

BUT, after surgery, you likely need a bit of specific attention and targeted progressive exercises before you can return to park run again.

You get me? (Your body image, self-doubt, inconsistency and relationship with food is the 'injury' in this loose analogy, but you already know that, I'm just being obnoxious)

In coaching, we do look at underlying patterns. WHY are you doing certain things? What is DRIVING your behaviour? What is driving your perception of your body?

Because these influence our day-to-day actions, without disrupting the pattern, you'll live in the same loop forever... therapy or no therapy, tracking or no tracking.

And I don't want that for you. And I don't think you want that for you either...

The more driven by appearance we are, the less likely we are to sustain any changes. (Oh my god, do you still think I’m talking about body image because I have a fat ass and I just found something so I wouldn’t feel bad about myself anymore…? Baby… come on, we’re here to get you RESULTS, not paper over my (perceived) shortcomings)

Par example:

To gain consistency, we have to understand your UNDERLYING patterns.

And it's really normal to feel a bit of 'bleh' or resistance when faced with the idea of working on your body image, or overeating or your relationship with food.

But what do you WANT?

Do you want to do what you're doing now forever?

  • Constantly comparing yourself to others
  • Thinking about how you can see your belly button through your shirt
  • Starting 'healthy' at the beginning of the week and ending it in the 'fuck it bucket' by Thursday, and planning to 'start again on Monday"
  • Skipping out on pictures and missing memories with your people
  • Constantly thinking about food
  • Mentally counting calories in your head
  • Feeling defeated about your body and your diet foreverrrrrr

I get exactly why you feel uncomfortable at the idea of delving a little bit deeper to get the results that you want.

I really do, this week's podcast episode is all about how I experienced the EXACT same feelings and what my personal journey looked like. (the shortened version because you have a life and I don't need to take up a Joe Rogan-length episode about my struggles with food and my body image because believe me, I've been there)

But staying the same is also uncomfortable. Remaining exactly where you are and being in the same place 6 months from now can be incredibly painful.

No one WANTS to work on their body image or relationship with food. (And I'd say that's quite normal, playing the long game and seeking out support requires courage)

In the same way, no one wants to do their fiddly, awkward, sometimes painful physio exercises (at least I don't), but it is a necessary part of the process to achieve the OUTCOME we desire.

(Headspace, feeling in control around food, knowing we're eating well and looking after our bodies for healthy aging, going on adventures, enjoying getting dressed in the morning again, being fully present, speaking up in meetings, loving swimming again, ENJOYING PLEASURE AGAIN...)

Staying the same is more painful than the discomfort of growth...

If you want a candid recounting of my own personal 'bleh, no thanks, but I guess I should give the latest podcast episode a listen 🎧

I didn't want to work on my body image either... and why that is super normal. But is it worth it?

Recs this week:

I have no good recs this week, so I shall not waste your time 😉. Other than going to the lounge at the Standard Hotel in London, I loved that

I hope you have a fab weekend...

Speak soon,

p.s. If coaching spots close Feb 15th and won't open again until June!!

Hello Reader, It's Eating Disorder Awareness Week. And if we're really real, the health and fitness industry is rife with eating disorders and disordered eating. It's grim. I'm talking just about other coaches and PT's here... And there are lots of coaches who are leaving people worse off than how they found them, not necessarily on purpose, but ignorance is not a good enough excuse. Negligence is still a form of abuse, and it's just that simple. But I'll save my professional rants for...

Hello Reader, I hope you are EXCEPTIONAL this fine Friday. We had about 36 hours of sunshine this week in the UK, so happy days. Until February 12th, it had rained every single day of 2026, lovely. Anyway. I did something that made me really uncomfortable this week. And I got a massage. Doesn't sound like that should be something that made me that uncomfortable. (nothing to do with the masseuse, Emma was phenomenal, that call is coming from inside the house) If you're local to Berkhamsted,...
